Tips for riding your motorcycle in heavy traffic

It is important to be very careful whenever riding your motorcycle, and especially so when riding on congested streets. So here are some tips that every motorcyclist should follow when riding, to ensure that they are as safe as possible when out on busy roads. First of all, it is very important that you pay attention to what car drivers are doing. Watch the way they move their heads, through their mirrors or windows, and this will help you to anticipate any sudden moves. If you are constantly aware of those around you, even if they are not paying as much attention, you will have a better chance of avoiding accidents.

It is also important to make sure that you get noticed by car drivers. This means wearing brightly coloured gear, most importantly your helmet and jacket, so that drivers will see you coming from a good distance, and make sure that they are extra careful. Thankfully, this type of clothing is getting to be quite fashionable, with many bikers proudly wearing bright colours, or displaying them in their homes so that their family or FoxyBingo friends can see them. Also, ride with your beam on, even during the day. However, be sure to turn it off when sitting behind someone at a traffic light, out of courtesy.

Another good tip is to make sure that your mirrors are adjusted properly and to check them regularly. These can be very valuable, however you must also make sure that you do not rely solely on them, and that you back-up you knowledge with a glance over the appropriate shoulder. When in traffic, you will often need to react quickly, so cover your breaks at all times. If you keep a finger or two on the brake lever, and your toe near the brake pedal, you will be able to respond quickly to whatever gets in your way. Above all, be careful and aware of your surroundings, and you should find that riding your motorcycle is much safer and more enjoyable.
