Lovin' 2 ride

Rode to work every day last week with temperatures in the 70's and low 80's.  Rode the scooter over 300 miles this past weekend; sunny and in the 80's on Saturday, cloudy and cold in the 50's on Sunday.  What a way to change gears.  Took a practice ride to Alexandria, LA on Sunday for the meeting of the COC (Coalition of Clubs) meeting, and will be heading back to Alexon Saturday for the Louisiana State H.O.G. rally.  Hope to see my friends there.  You all ride safe!

One Wheeled Monocycle

A cool video about Kerry McLean who is the inventor of the Monocycle, a one wheeled motorcycle type vehicle. Filmed in 2006 by professional filmmaker Stephen McGee. Given my lack of ability to even ride a regular motorcycle there is no doubt in my mind I would crash the Monocycle. As Kerry says in the video this awesome machine requires a lot of concentration and skill to operate. If you want to see another cool motorcycle be sure to checkout theHubless Monster.
Cool!

Spring is here

Spring is here. We might have 40 degree mornings to contend with, but here in the south, there's not any snow on the ground like up there in the north.  The trees are flowering; the bradford pears are in full bloom, and my allergies are testament to that.  The forecast for the weekend is in the 70's and there will be plenty of bikes on the roads.  As you travel, remember that a lot of new riders will be out there and a lot of riders who are a little rusty.  And, don't forget about the cars who have possibly gotten used to the lower amount of bikes on the road.  Their attention is often on their cell phone call rather than the person on the motorcycle coming to a stop at the light in front of them.  This can make for a dangerous situation.  The United States Air Force is running a campaign to get awareness of motorcycle out there.  They contend that April is the month with the most motorcycle fatalities of any other month, and they are prepared to lower that number.  At the gates, expect to be pulled over and have your paperwork checked.  It's mandatory on Barksdale to show proof of insurance, registration and a motorcycle safety course certificate.  They will also be checking for proper safety gear.   On Barksdale AFB, you are required to wear a long sleeve shirt, long pants, boots, full fingered gloves, goggles or shatter proof glasses, contrasting colors during the day and reflective gear at night, as well as a DOT approved helmet.   Rules vary whether you are a civilian, retired or military, so check with the Barksdale AFB Safety office if you intend to ride on base.  As you get ready for spring, make sure your bike is ready to go.  Does it need maintenance or tires?  Don't delay.  Make sure it is safe to ride.  Furthermore, if you're a little rusty, get in some practice or take a motorcycle safety course.  Get out there and ride safe and have fun!
